If you want an introduction to what Devotionals for Moms is all about, click on this link for an introduction.
I believe that taking time to deepen your relationship with God and fellowship with other women of faith will significantly grow not only your faith, but the faith of those around you… and when your faith grows, so does your sense of peace, joy, contentment, and love. Because after all… God is love and God loves you.
What does that mean for this site though? What should you expect to see here?
5 Minute Devotionals
Along with diet, exercise, and committing to actually read the books for book club, spending time in daily devotional seems almost unattainable for busy Christian Moms.
There. I said it.
Even though we know that committing to a daily spiritual practice is essential for a healthy relationship with God, many Christian Moms just don’t do it. We are reminded every Sunday morning and Wednesday night just how important nurturing our spiritual health is. Goodness, every time we look at our children we come face to face with the enormity of raising faithful kids and we know that in order to build a strong spiritual foundation for them, we have to build one for ourselves too.
But we don’t do it. I will admit it. Raising my hand right now. I am horrible at carving out time every day to spend with God. How about you?
There are a wide variety of reasons why:
- screaming toddlers;
- sassy preschoolers;
- a full menu of after school activities;
- meal planning;
- cleaning up dog vomit;
- paying the water bill….
I could go on. As with many aspects of self-care, busy Moms tend to neglect spiritual self-care as well.
If I am being honest, the idea of carving out 20-30 minutes for a proper daily Bible reading, reflection, gratitude journal, and prayer seems very daunting and un-doable for me. That is what I am striving for but at this point I just want to begin.
Let’s just begin. Get in the habit of doing something– anything– to strengthen our relationship with God and take care of our spiritual health.
5 minutes is not the ideal but it is a really great start.
